Bill Withers is a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, an American Singer, and Songwriter, who was active between the years of 1970-1985. Withers was awarded three Grammy Awards during his years in the music scene, and passed away on the 30th of March, 2020, at the age of 81; two children survived him. Withers was well known for his hit songs, like “Use Me,” “Lovely Day,” “Lean On Me,” “Ain’t No Sunshine,” to mention a few.

Legends like Bill Withers leave behind a musical blueprint, as young singers who want to make it to the apex of their career, do repeatedly take after their creative ways. Below, we’ll be reviewing three of Withers songs that will better describe his singing style.

Ain’t No Sunshine” (EMOTIONS)

This was a piece written just like a poetic retrospective session. Withers incorporated emotions into his vocals, repeatedly stressing how things changed overnight since his lover left. He sang the phrase “I Know” countless times and was able to immortalize the captivating emotions today’s music singles lack; listening to the song you’d feel for him or also feel for yourself if you’ve experienced something of such.

Harlem” (DETAILING)

This song was about a neighborhood in New York. Wither sang about the atypical weather condition in Harlem without leaving behind the high rate of criminality. He was able to capture with perfect detailing the way of life in Harlem, before bringing the song home on the weekend varying stress levels.

Use Me” (INCORPORATION OF MEDITATION)

“Use me” is a meditation on love. Withers was able to show the desire and the uneasiness he’s feeling as a result of the toxicity in love; this made the song stand out. “Use Me” is one of the biggest songs of withers singing career.

Emotions, Detailing, and Incorporation of Meditation are the three terms that better describes withers singing style. You want to sing like Withers and end up going down in history too? Then always make use of the three terms discussed above!
